Sisters of Color United for Education (SOCUE) will be hosting the “Bella Alma/Beautiful Soul Fashion Show and Community Health Pachanga” on April 17th from 3-8pm at La Alma Recreation Center, 12th Ave and Mariposa in West Denver. The charity event will benefit Sisters with all of the proceeds going to build a wheelchair ramp at Sisters’ wellness center for community participants in need of access. The event will also feature the AIDS Healthcare Foundation’s (AHF) Magic Johnson Mobile Testing Van, which will provide free, safe and confidential rapid HIV testing for anyone unsure of their status.
In conjunction with their practice of holistic healing through the mind, body and spirit, Sisters is bringing together a unique conglomerate in one event. By offering safe and easy HIV testing; a youth led fashion show; and alternative wellness options, Sisters is creating a safe space for the community to explore healthier and informed living options.
This exciting event will be a fusion of fashion, alternative wellness education and services accompanied by diverse, cultural entertainment. Hundreds of people from the community are expected to attend the Health Pachanga and make the commitment to support a worthwhile cause.
The Magic Johnson Mobile Testing Van is currently on its’ second part of its national tour to provide access to free HIV testing to underserved populations and communities of color. Over the past three months the testing tour has visited 18 states with 33 sites along the southern border of the country, and has conducted over 2,500 HIV tests.
