Endorsing candidates with integrity, valor

Each day our publication is flooded with various research, reports and the latest US Census statistics declaring the Latino community as the fastest growing population, both locally and nationally.
However, we are powerless unless we exercise our right to vote.
In Denver’s recent May 3rd election, over half of the City’s registered voters did not vote, including numerous registered Latino voters.
On June 7th Denver voters will again have the opportunity to have their voice heard through our electoral process; and ballots for the run off election were mailed on May 20th.
I would like to take this opportunity to remind voters how fortunate we are in this country to have these rights to elect our public officials, while other countries suffer under rogue leadership.
The Weekly Issue/El Semanario is taking this opportunity to share our endorsements for the upcoming election.
Chris Romer for Denver Mayor
Regarding the Mayoral run off election on June 7th, we give our full support to Chris Romer. He is well known in our community and has advocated for Latinos despite the unpopular drawbacks.
Chris did not seek out the limelight in the past twenty years drawing attention to his advocacy efforts in our communities of color. He has continually fought against the anti-immigrant legislation trying to ensure that innocent children have the opportunity to an education.
Chris has made his priorities clear that he is not in support of the undefined Secure Communities program that former Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter signed into law before ending his term. His actions have been bold in setting a plan for positive change within the Denver Police Departments administration.
