Denver celebrates Día de los Niños

Día de los Niños, or Children’s Day, is an annual celebration recognizing children and their importance in society. Recognized by many countries throughout the world, it is celebrated at various days in many places around the globe.
In partnership with the Consulate General of México and the Mexican Cultural Center, five of Denver’s premier cultural institutions are collaborating to host free Día de los Niños celebrations from noon to 4 p.m. on April 29.
The Byers-Evans House Museum, the Clyfford Still Museum, the Denver Art Museum, the Denver Public Library and the History Colorado Center will offer a variety of family friendly activities including live music and dance performances. The event includes free general admission for children 12 and younger at the
new History Colorado Center and free general admission to all visitors at the other four institutions.
The afternoon has an exciting lineup of music and dance performances with brightly costumed performers, including a chance to see the prestigious contemporary dance company México en Movimiento, led by award-winning ballerina and Mexican cultural icon Amalia Viviana Basanta Hernández. By integrating regional, classical and contemporary music, the dance company immerses the audience in a vision of México in Motion, blending cultural foundations with modern day realities.
Adults and children can participate in a number of bilingual, hands-on activities at each institution. Former Denver Mayor and current president of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Guillermo (Bill) Vidal and wife Gabriela Cornejo Vidal will read the 2012 Preschool One Book, One Denver selection at 2 p.m. in the
Denver Art Museum’s Duncan Pavilion, located on level two of the North Building.
Visit the Clyfford Still Museum's art-making station outside on the museum's forecourt to make wearable art inspired by the jagged shapes and bright colors in Clyfford Still's abstract paintings. Stop by the Denver Public Library (always free) to create your own autobiography to take home and add to. Make a mask
inspired by your imagination at the Denver Art Museum. Make your mark on a new display of the Colorado flag at the History Colorado Center by jotting down something you love about Colorado on colorful paper.
Make a May basket to celebrate May Day at the Byers-Evans House Museum. Visitors will receive a passport to take with them on their journey through each festival location. Each institution will be raffling off piñatas for lucky ...
