More than 95,000 individuals will be responsible for their own health April 22-30, by attending the 27th Annual 9Health Fair. With more than 175 sites across Colorado, Wyoming and Nebraska, 9Health Fair will deliver a record number of free and low-cost health awareness and educational screening services that proactively address today's most critical health issues, including heart disease, sleeping disorders, diabetes, diet and exercise and cervical cancer.
In 2006, 9Health Fair will introduce Cardio Risk Assessments (CRAs), made possible through a collaboration with the Colorado Prevention Center. Sleep apnea screenings from Swedish Medical Center, Exempla Lutheran Medical Center and Northern Colorado Medical Center and fasting finger stick glucose screenings offered by Bayer HealthCare are also available. Additionally, thanks to new sponsorships with LaraBar, King Soopers/City Market and Cherry Creek Sneak, participants will receive new information on the role diet and exercise play in a maintaining a health lifestyle and cervical cancer awareness will be expanded thanks to UniPath's Pap smear and Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) pathology services.
"As health care costs continue to rise, it is more important than ever for people to be proactive with their health," said Anne Cosby, 9Health Fair president and CEO. "9Health Fair's free and low-cost health screenings are endorsed by the Colorado Medical Society, Colorado Nurses Association and supported by the Colorado Health and Hospital Association. This support, along with evidence-based guidance from our Medical Advisory Committee, allows people 18 years and older to receive credible baseline health information and education on how to live a healthy life."
Quest Diagnostics laboratory services are instrumental in 9Health Fair's $30, 31-component blood chemistry screening (a $400-$600 value). As the gold standard health awareness and educational screening program, since 1980, more than 1.6 million Coloradans have taken advantage of 9Health Fair's program. Annually, 9Health Fair impacts and saves thousands of lives thanks to its critical and alert phone calls that occur 72 hours after a participant attends a health fair. In 2005, nearly 9,000 9Health Fair participants learned of a previous unknown health concern while participating in a 9Health Fair.
"My thyroid level was really high and 9Health Fair tried, but couldn't reach me by phone," said Theresa Himelstieb, 9Health Fair participant since 1998. "So, through their follow up process, 9Health Fair expedited my results to my house and included a cover letter saying that I had to seek immediate medical attention. I can't
