Arturo Jiménez: Vision, experience

For decades, our public school systems have failed in educating our children. This failure is not the sole problem of the school districts, but also due to the lack of support from parents and our communities.

Most recently, the Denver Public School students and families are facing possible school closures in heavily populated Latino, Black and low-income neighborhoods.

Our public education system is in a crisis mode and candidates running for the DPS board positions must have the most noble of intentions to guide the future of DPS and the students who depend on the public education system.

According to the latest DPS population statistics, 57.3 percent of the districts population are Latino -- and 13,337 students are Spanish-speaking. These numbers relay the importance for parental and community involvement – and the need for a board with revolutionized ideas, and the energy to put them into action.

In Denver’s School District 5, Arturo Jiménez is striving to create change. His extensive involvement in our community lends to his years of extraordinary experience; which also includes his involvement on a statewide level, serving as President of the Colorado Statewide Parent Coalition.

The Denver native’s experience as a parent of a DPS student, lends to his belief system that parents must be involved in every level of their child’s educational career.

Most recently, fellow candidate José Silva, stepped out of the race and lent his support to Jiménez, allowing a broader vision and exemplary ideas to a district under-going extreme reform.

“José has done a very noble thing – he has put the kids at the center of attention,” explained Jiménez. “He understands the lack of representation at the highest levels in our schools.”
