Tío Ronnie’s Weekly Sports Review
First off my apologies to everyone this column was to be out last issue with the start of baseball season, but things being what they are we missed by one week. Well, the Rockies are currently 4th in their division I have to say they look damn good, more later. Somebody please tell me what in the hell is Broncos Coach Josh McDaniels doing? The trade for Brady Quinn from the dreaded Browns? Brady Quinn? Are you serious? Come on, that will sit well with female fans but, Brady Quinn? At one point weren’t the Browns hated as much as my Raiders by you Bronco fans? Personally I don’t care I think it’s funny, I am a RAIDER FAN! Then the Brandon Marshall deal to Miami, well I’m ok with that, I thought he was a jerk and don’t care too much for the Dolphins, more later. Tony Scheffler is now a Detroit Lion, wow. I have to give props to Tony he was a stand up guy and played well. Lets back up a little, this all started with the trade of Jay Cutler to the Bears. It is very evident that Coach McDaniels will make this “his team”. Head on Josh let’s see where it ends up. I love this stuff more fuel for the fire and ribbing to mi familia, who by the way are Bronco Fans. Ok, let’s look at the links, the return of El Tigre Señor Woods. It looked good on paper, but he did faultier and finished fourth at the Masters. Maybe he was thinking of his rehab? He is still a hell of a golfer, so leave him alone! Who really cares about his extra marital affairs? Really, is it that important to us what he did? I just want to see him play. Then there was the shocking news from the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Lorena Ochoa ranked number one in the world has announced her retirement to concentrate on a family. She was an asset to the LPGA, plus it did not hurt that she was Latina. She won six times in 2006, rose to No. 1 in 2007, and captured her first major at St. Andrews the same year by winning the Women’s British Open. Ochoa’s other major was the 2008 Kraft Nabisco Championship, where she took the traditional jump into the pond with her family as a mariachi band serenaded her. Now how cool is that? The Avalanche are rolling along and giving the San José Sharks a good series, the Sharks tied the series 2 a piece. But I don’t see the Av’s moving on to the next round. I could be wrong. My apologies to mi sobrino, Matt. Then there are the Nuggets, who split a pair with the Jazz. I think the Nuggets can get past Utah and move on to the second round. I could be wrong. In sad news from the Rockies, Colorado Rockies president Keli McGregor was found dead in his hotel room in Salt Lake City on Tuesday. “Words cannot describe the level of shock and disbelief that we all are feeling this morning at the loss of Keli,” team chairman and CEO Charlie Monfort said in a statement. “Our thoughts, our prayers are with Lori and the entire family as we all try to cope and understand how such a tragic loss could occur with such a wonderful man.” Thanks Keli for all you did for our Rockies you will be missed. McGregor is survived by his wife, Lori, three daughters and a son. Now a personal thought, I love baseball, Its América’s pastime. There is nothing better than sitting in the stands on a warm summer afternoon with a warm beer, cold hotdog with friends and familia. Remember you have to love what you do and do what you love. In this column, I will not bore you with box scores and mind numbing stats. Just the scores and highlights leaving out the general BS. I will sometimes shock you and generally piss you off. As stated above I am not a Bronco Fan, never have been, never will be. I will rip them at every opportunity possible. Love me or hate me at least your thinking of me. ~Tío Ronnie
